Data Privacy
The privacy of personal information or other information stored on a computer that should not be accessed by unauthorised parties.
Data Security
Methods taken to prevent unauthorised access to data and recover data if lost or corrupted.
Malicious Hacking
The illegal access to a computer system without the user’s permission or knowledge
Ethical Hacking
Legal and done with permision. It is authorised by a company to check how secure and robust their computer system is.
Viruses
A program or a program code that replicate themselves with the intention of deleting or corrupting files.
Worms
A stand-alone virus that can replicate itself with the intention of spreading to other computers.
Spyware
A software that gathers information by monitoring a user activity (ex. Key board presses).
Phishing
When a user receives legitimate looking email or link that aims to steal personal information.
Pharming
When a user is redirected to a fake website without their knowledge.
Data Integrity
The accuracy, completeness and consistency of data
Validation
A method used to ensure entered data is reasonable and meets input criteria
Verification
A method used to ensure data is correct. Can be done by visual checks or double entry.
