Topic 10 Flashcards
Reversible reactions can reach Dynamic equilibrium
At dynamic equilibrium the concentrations of reactants and products stay constant
Homogeneous equilibria and kc
A homogeneous system is a system in which everything is in the same physical state
All the products and reactants are included in the expression for KC
Heterogeneous equilibria and Kc
In heterogeneous systems not everything is in the same physical state. This means no solids or pure liquids are included. This is because their concentrations remain constant Throughout the reaction
Catalysts… The equilibriums constant
Don’t affect
Le Chatelier’s principal
If there’s a change in concentration pressure or temperature the equilibriums will move to help counteract this change
If you increase concentration of a reactant…
The equilibrium tries to get rid of the extra reactants it does this by making more products so equilibria shifts to the right
If you increase the pressure…
Increasing the pressure shifts equilibriums to the side with fewer gas molecules this reduces the pressure
Temperature and equilibria
Increasing the temperature means adding heat.the equilibriums shifts to the endothermic direction to absorb this extra heat. Decreasing the temperature removes heat and therefore the equilibrium will shift to the exothermic direction to try to release and therefore replace the heat
