(6 cards)
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
a program by the Australian government that subsidises the cost of essential prescription medications, making them more accessible and affordable for all Australians, regardless of their income.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS is a national insurance scheme that provides services and support for people with permanent, significant disabilities, and their families and carers. Funded by the federal and state/territory governments, the NDIS works to assist individuals with permanent and significant disabilities to live an ordinary life.
individualised plan
An individualised plan in the NDIS is a customised document that outlines the supports and services a participant will receive, based on their goals, needs, and circumstances.
It’s central to how the NDIS operates and ensures that each participant gets the right level of assistance to enhance their independence and wellbeing.
what are the disability requirements for the NDIS?
- you have an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent
- your impairment substantially reduces your ability to participate effectively in activities, or perform tasks or actions unless you have:
- assistance from other people, or
- you have assistive technology or equipment (other than common items such as glasses), or
- you can’t participate effectively even with assistance or aides and equipment
- your impairment affects your capacity for social and economic participation
- you are likely to require support under the NDIS for your lifetime.
Through the individualised plan, the NDIS assists participants to:
- access mainstream services and supports
- access community services and supports
- maintain informal support arrangements
- receive reasonable and necessary funded supports
PBS safety net
aims to reduce the cost of prescription medicines for individuals and families, especially after they’ve spent a certain amount on PBS medicines in a calendar year.
