Identification before applying a service
A
- Identify AC using appropriate method
- Have identity of AC transferred from other controller
+ Act of identification does not imply service

A
- Pilot informed as soon as AC identified

- Pilot informed if ident achieved by turn method

Turn Method
A
- Execution of an instruction to alter heading by at least 30°
- One or more changes of heading of at least 30°, as instructed
- One or more changes of heading of at least 30°, as reported by the pilot

- Verify that the movement of only 1 AC complies

Departing AC Method
A
- Correlating an observed radar position indication with an AC which is known to have just departed
- Provided that ident is established within 1nm from the rwy in use

A
- Avoid confusion with overflying AC, AC making a MA, departing AC from adjacent AD or AC holding in the overhead

Position Report Method
A
Correlating a particular position report from the pilot that the AC is…
- Over an exact RP which is displayed
- A particular distance, not exceeding 30 miles from a co-located VOR/DME(TAC), which is displayed
- Over a notified VRP or prominent geographical feature, which is approved and displayed. AC must be flying with visual reference to the surface and at height 3000’ or less above the surface

Position Report Considerations
A
- Ident must follow a period of track observation to compare the movement with the pilot’s reported route
- Reinforced by alternative method if doubt exists due to close proximity of other returns, or inaccurate reporting from AC at high level or some distance from navigation facilities
