  • breaks down monoamines (serotonin)
    • MAO inhibitors block monoamine oxidase
    • serious side effects= hypertension= stroke

  • block presynaptic reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline

- negative side effects= common– dry mouth, blurred vision, tremor
