7ER Flight Controls Flashcards

(35 cards)

1
Q

What happens if the yoke trim switches are moved while one or more autopilots are engaged?

A

Q

How does the flap load relief system operate?

A

757: if the placarded limit speed for Flaps 30 (162 for 752, 168 for 753) is exceeded, the flaps will retract to 25.

767: if the placarded limit for Flaps 25 (180) or 30 (170) is exceeded, the flaps will retract to 20.

BOTH: one speed is reduced, the flaps will automatically re-extend

8
Q

How are the spoilers used in roll control?

A

They supplement the ailerons in response to control wheel commands.

757 only: spoilers 4 and 9 are not used in flight

Q

What is the function of the ALTN FLAPS LE and TE switches (757)?

A

Off (ALTN not visible) - normal system function

ALTN - shuts off hyd power to both the flaps and slats, and arms the alternate drive unit of the selected system. The flap/slat lever no longer controls the flaps and slats.

Q

What is the function of the ALTN FLAPS LE and TE switches (767)?

A

Off (ALTN not visible) - normal system function

ALTN - shuts off hyd power to the selected system, and arms the selected system’s alternate drive. The flap/slat lever still controls a system with ALTN not selected

12
Q

What is the difference between alternate flaps/slats on the 757 and 767?

A

757: when either slats or flaps fail, both will use the alternate function

767: when either slats or flaps fail, only the failed system will use the alternate function, while the other will operate normally

15
Q

With the LEADING EDGE or TRAILING EDGE light illuminated, how can you tell if the problem is a disagreement or an asymmetry?

A

There are different EICAS caution messages, either DISAGREE or ASYM

16
Q

What happens when an asymmetry or disagreement is detected?

A

757: hydraulic power is removed from both flaps and slats, regardless of which one failed

767: hydraulic power is removed from only the failed system

17
Q

What condition other than a disagreement or asymmetry can cause a TRAILING EDGE light?

A

A failure of the load relief system (EICAS advisory FLAP LD RELIEF)

18
Q

When do the outboard ailerons operate (767)?

A

At low speeds

19
Q

What is the meaning of an AIL LOCK light and EICAS advisory AILERON LOCKOUT?

A

The aileron lockout system has failed.

At high speed, one or both outboard ailerons have failed to lock, and there is a risk of overcontrolling

At low speed, one or both outboard ailerons have failed to unlock, and there is a risk of undercontrolling

20
Q

What is the operation of the control column nudger?

A

If both Stall Warning Computers detect a high AoA and the flaps are retracted, the control columns will be nudged forward.

The system is energized in the air and disabled on the ground.

21
Q

What is the operation of the rudder ratio system?

A

Uses left hyd pressure to reduce rudder inputs as a function of increasing airspeed

22
Q

What is the meaning of a STAB TRIM light?

A

The stab trim is operating at 1/2 rate. If the malfunction is limited to the electric trim, full rate is available using alternate trim

(associated EICAS advisory STAB TRIM)

23
Q

What is the meaning of a SPOILERS light?

A

One or more spoiler pairs are inoperative (757) or not in the signaled position (767)

(associated EICAS advisory SPOILERS)

24
Q

What is the meaning of an AUTO SPDBRK light?

A

A fault is detected in the automatic speedbrake system. The speedbrakes will not extend automatically after landing. The speedbrakes should not be left in the ARMED position.

(associated EICAS advisory AUTO SPEEDBRAKE)

25
What is the meaning of a RUDDER RATIO light?
The rudder ratio system has failed, or left hyd pressure is not available (EICAS advisory RUDDER RATIO)
26
Where are the flap limit speeds?
Around the periphery of the flap indicator
27
If the rudder ratio system fails with left hydraulic pressure still normal, what can happen?
The rudder can have limited displacement, resulting in crosswind and autoland limitations
28
When is the ALTN FLAPS selector operable?
When either the ALTN FLAPS LE or TE switch is in ALTN
29
What is the meaning of a YAW DAMPER INOP light?
The associated yaw damper is inoperative [EICAS advisory L(R) YAW DAMPER]
30
What is the meaning of a MACH SPD TRIM light?
The Mach speed trim system has failed [EICAS advisory MACH/SPD TRIM]
31
How are the speedbrakes automatically deployed?
If the speedbrake lever is ARMED: when landing gear is fully on the ground (no tilt) with both engines at idle, the speedbrake lever will move to UP and the speedbrakes will deploy If the speedbrake lever is not ARMED: when landing gear is fully on the ground (no tilt) and either reverse thrust lever is moved to idle reverse, the speedbrake lever will move to UP and the speedbrakes will deploy
32
What would cause an EICAS caution SPEEDBRAKES EXT?
The speedbrakes are extended and: Flaps are in a landing position -OR- radio altitude is 800ft or below -OR- engine thrust above idle for more than 15 seconds (some 757s)
33
What are the takeoff flap positions?
752: 1, 5, 15, 20 753: 5, 15, 20 767: 5, 15, 20
34
What are the landing flap positions?
All variants: 25, 30
35
What is a danger if using manual speedbrake deployment?
A nose-up moment can be created, which can result in a tail strike
