7ER Flight Controls Flashcards
(35 cards)
What happens if the yoke trim switches are moved while one or more autopilots are engaged?
If one autopilot is engaged, the autopilot will disconnect.
If two or more autopilots are engaged, the trim switches are inhibited and will have no effect.
What is the function of the Flight Control Shutoff switches, and where are they located?
ON - flight control valve is commanded open, flight controls can be powered by the associated hydraulic system
OFF (blank) - flight control valve is commanded closed, the associated hydraulic system cannot power the flight controls
OFF light - flight control valve is closed
Located on the Right Accessory Panel
What is the difference in Flight Control Shutoff switches between the 757 and 767?
757: three switches, one per hyd system
767: six switches, two per hyd system (one for wing and one for tail)
What control surfaces can be affected by the Flight Control Shutoff switches?
757: stabilizer, elevators, and rudder
767: ailerons and spoilers (wing switch), elevator and rudder (tail switch)
What action can be taken in the event of a control jam?
What happens if alternate trim is used with one or more autopilots engaged?
The trim will move, and an UNSCHED STAB TRIM light and EICAS caution UNSCHED STAB TRIM will result
How does the flap load relief system operate?
757: if the placarded limit speed for Flaps 30 (162 for 752, 168 for 753) is exceeded, the flaps will retract to 25.
767: if the placarded limit for Flaps 25 (180) or 30 (170) is exceeded, the flaps will retract to 20.
BOTH: one speed is reduced, the flaps will automatically re-extend
How are the spoilers used in roll control?
They supplement the ailerons in response to control wheel commands.
757 only: spoilers 4 and 9 are not used in flight
What is the maximum flap setting when using the alternate flap extension system?
Flaps 20
What is the function of the ALTN FLAPS LE and TE switches (757)?
Off (ALTN not visible) - normal system function
ALTN - shuts off hyd power to both the flaps and slats, and arms the alternate drive unit of the selected system. The flap/slat lever no longer controls the flaps and slats.
What is the function of the ALTN FLAPS LE and TE switches (767)?
Off (ALTN not visible) - normal system function
ALTN - shuts off hyd power to the selected system, and arms the selected system’s alternate drive. The flap/slat lever still controls a system with ALTN not selected
What is the difference between alternate flaps/slats on the 757 and 767?
757: when either slats or flaps fail, both will use the alternate function
767: when either slats or flaps fail, only the failed system will use the alternate function, while the other will operate normally
When is slat asymmetry protection not provided (757)?
Slat asymmetry protection is provided at all times, even in alternate mode
What slat and flap protections exist during normal operation?
Asymmetry protection
Disagreement protection
Flap load relief protection
With the LEADING EDGE or TRAILING EDGE light illuminated, how can you tell if the problem is a disagreement or an asymmetry?
There are different EICAS caution messages, either DISAGREE or ASYM
What happens when an asymmetry or disagreement is detected?
757: hydraulic power is removed from both flaps and slats, regardless of which one failed
767: hydraulic power is removed from only the failed system
What condition other than a disagreement or asymmetry can cause a TRAILING EDGE light?
A failure of the load relief system (EICAS advisory FLAP LD RELIEF)
When do the outboard ailerons operate (767)?
At low speeds
What is the meaning of an AIL LOCK light and EICAS advisory AILERON LOCKOUT?
The aileron lockout system has failed.
At high speed, one or both outboard ailerons have failed to lock, and there is a risk of overcontrolling
At low speed, one or both outboard ailerons have failed to unlock, and there is a risk of undercontrolling
What is the operation of the control column nudger?
If both Stall Warning Computers detect a high AoA and the flaps are retracted, the control columns will be nudged forward.
The system is energized in the air and disabled on the ground.
What is the operation of the rudder ratio system?
Uses left hyd pressure to reduce rudder inputs as a function of increasing airspeed
What is the meaning of a STAB TRIM light?
The stab trim is operating at 1/2 rate. If the malfunction is limited to the electric trim, full rate is available using alternate trim
(associated EICAS advisory STAB TRIM)
What is the meaning of a SPOILERS light?
One or more spoiler pairs are inoperative (757) or not in the signaled position (767)
(associated EICAS advisory SPOILERS)
What is the meaning of an AUTO SPDBRK light?
A fault is detected in the automatic speedbrake system. The speedbrakes will not extend automatically after landing. The speedbrakes should not be left in the ARMED position.
(associated EICAS advisory AUTO SPEEDBRAKE)
