9 - Brain & Spine (Panic version) Flashcards
What is the cauda equina?
The roots of spinal nerves which extend inferiorly from the lumbosacral enlargements and conus medullaris
What is the location of the cerebellum?
Attached to brainstem, inferior to the pons
What is the cerebral cortex?
The grey matter on the outer surface of the cerebrum.
What are the cervical nerves?
Spinal nerves 1-8
What is the coccygeal nerve?
Spinal nerve 31
What is the conus medullaris?
The region on the spinal cord where the spinal cord tapers to a cone-like shape.
Where is the diencephalon?
Between the brainstem and cerebum.
What is the diencephalon composed of?
Thalamus
Subthalamus
Epithalamus
Hypothalamus
What is the endoneurium?
Connective tissue layer surrounding an axon and its myelin sheath
What is the epineurium?
Dense connective tissue layer surrounding nerve fascicles
What is a fissure?
A groove in the brain
What is the hypothalamus?
The most inferior part of the diencephalon
What are the lumbar nerves?
Spinal nerves 21-25
What is the medulla oblongata?
The most inferior part of the brain stem, continous with the spinal cord
What is the perineurium?
Connective tissue layer surrounding a group of axons.
What are the sacral nerves?
Spinal nerves 26-30
What are the sulcus?
Grooves on the cerebrum of the brain
What is the thalamus?
The largest part of the diencephalon
What are the thoracic nerves?
Spinal nerves 9-20
What are the vertebrae?
Bones of the vertebral column, encasing the spinal cord
What are the three layers of nerve structure, inner->outer?
Endoneurium
Perineurium
Epineurium
The dorsal root is….
sensory
The ventral root is…
motor
