What are Conquistadors?
Conquistadors are Mexican conquerors who were in the Spanish Army. They were also revered to as knights or soldiers.
Spanish Explorers
a. What was their biggest contribution to Spanish / French Exploration?
They wanted to colonize and seek out new land. They wanted their country to colonize new land and have first claims. Also, they wanted to find treasure.
De Pineda
Commanded a Spanish expedition that sailed in 1519 from Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico, and landed in Cabo Rojo, Mexico. He and his men were the Europeans to first map the Gulf of Mexico area.
Cabeza De Vaca
1528- Wrecked into an island off the coast of Texas (near Galveston.) He was the first European to walk on present-day Texas.
La Salle
1684-Was a French explorer who led an expedition down the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. He claimed the region by the Mississippi River for King Louis XIV and named it “Louisiana”.
Coronado
He was an explorer and a conquistador who led an expedition. The expedition led to Mexico and Present-Day Kansas; Southwestern United States.
What led to Spanish Colonial Success?
The Spanish became rich in gold and silver.
