Citizen Property Damage required steps:

A

Issue: Citizen Property Damage

Immediate Actions

  • Place the unit out of service

Investigate

  • Citizen name, address, phone number, statement
  • Witness statements with name, contact information
  • Photos
  • Review personnel files
  • Review SOP 01.09.11 Liability Incident Reporting
  • Review station policies

Notify

  • Battalion Management Team (BC and EMS Supervisor)
  • Uniformed Fire Officer
  • Volunteer Chief/President if applicable

Document

  • Supervisors notes (names, date, time)
  • Risk 05- Citizen Property Damage Report
  • FRD-317-Narrative Statement form from all witnesses
  • FRD-072 Vehicle Accident, Non-Collision Damage, and Portable Equipment Loss/Damage form

Follow up

  • Attempt to restore property to the best of ability after photographed
  • Advise the owner to contact County Risk Management Division for further information regarding the claim
  • Recommend progressive discipline to BC as appropriate
  • Repair/replace faulty equipment
  • Delegate training for the shift to LT or Master Technician on SOPs, station policies, and ways to prevent future occurrences
    • Review training in 3 working days, have the training delivered in 6 working days
