What is national policy for the treatment of 450 ‘rare diseases’?

A

By : Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

-ICMR rare diseases chi list banavnare

  • Categories : 1)requiring one-time treatment
    2) long-term treatment but cost is low
    3) long-term treatments with high cost

-Financial assistance : 15 lakh will be provided to patients that require a one-time curative treatment under the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi scheme. The treatment will be limited to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

  • Patients of rare diseases eligible for a one-time treatment under the Ayushman Bharat PMJAY
  • Beneficiaries : Not only BPL -> Covers 40% of population
  • categorised rare diseases in three groups
    1) needing one time treatment 2)needing long term / lifelong treatment
    3) definitive treatment is available but challenges are to make optimal patient selection for benefit.
