What is the health and safety at work act 1974?
It sets out the duties of employers and employees to ensure the heath of anyone at work or who may be affected by work activities.
What are the duties to adhere to the health and safety at work act 1974?
- ensuring safety and absence of risks to health in the use, handling, storage and transport of substances
- giving the information, training and instructions necessary to ensure the health and safety of employers

What is COSHH 2002?
Control of substances hazardous to health is designed to protect people against risks to health arising from work related exposure hazardous substances. It requires assessment and control of risks before any work takes place.
What is PPE at work regulations 2022?
Managing and reducing risk is always the priority. Use of PPE should be worn and used to reduce harm to employees, visitors and clients
What is RIDDOR 2013?
Reporting of injuries,diseases and dangerous occurences regulations is used to define employers duties to report serious workplace accidents, occupational diseases and specified dangerous occurrences (near misses).
What is an accident?
A separate, indentifiable, unintended incident which causes physical injury
What is the environmental protection act 1990?
The EPA aims to improve control of pollution to the air, water and land by regulating the management of waste and the control of emissions.
What is the special waste regulations 1996?
The regulation and control of the transit, import and export of waste. It relates to the prevention, reduction and elimination of pollution caused by waste
What is the hazardous waste regulations 2005?
Controls the storage, transport and disposal of hazardous waste to ensure it is appropriately managed and any risks are minimalised
What is the waste electrical and electronic equipment regulations (WEEE) 2013?
Aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment incinerated or sent to landfill sites. Places onus on all businesses to correctly store and transport electrical waste
What is the regulatory reform (fire safety) order (RRO) 2005?
Aims to reduce death, damage and injury caused by fire, by placing legal responsibilities on employers to carry out a fire risk assessment
What is manual handling operations regulations 1992?
Requires employers to assess and minimise the risk to health of employees involved in the manual handling, moving and positioning of objects, person or animals.
What is the health and safety (display screen equipment) regulations 1992?
Defines employers responsibilities in carrying out risk assessments of workstations used by employees, including the use of display screen equipment to minimise identified risks like
- tiredness caused by poorly designed or adjusted workstations
- repetitive strain injury and carpal tunnel syndrome
- eye strain leading to headaches, fatigue and sore eyes
