Q

Unreliable Airspeed FLT CTRL DIRECT ADS (Caution) message

A

Disengage Autopilot
• Disconnect Autothrottle
• Select Flight Director off (if possible)
• If below a safe altitude, set pitch 12.5
degrees and Max thrust.
• If above a safe altitude during climb,
set pitch 5 degrees and Climb thrust.
• If at cruise altitude, set pitch 2
degrees and 80% N1.
• Call “ECL, UNRELIABLE
AIRSPEED”
Accomplish the procedure
Re-establish pitch and power based on the
Unreliable Airspeed Tables

Q

Engine Failure in Cruise / Driftdown

A

Verify or move operating engine Thrust
Lever to MCT
• Disconnect Autothrottle
• Set speed MAN and Green Dot
• Initiate turn if required
• Set single engine driftdown altitude
• When speed is at Green Dot, select FLC
• Adjust speed to match Green Dot in descent
• Verify MCT set
• Obtain single engine driftdown
altitude
• Advise ATC
• Call for the appropriate procedure
• Accomplish the procedure

Q

Upset Recovery - Nose High

A

Recognize and confirm the situation

• Disengage Autopilot
• Disconnect Autothrottle
• Apply nose down elevator
• Reduce thrust if required
• * Roll (adjust bank angle) to obtain a nose
down pitch rate
Complete the recovery:
• When approaching the horizon, roll to wings
level
• Check airspeed and adjust thrust
• Establish pitch attitude

Q

Nose low recovery

A

Recognize and confirm the situation

• Disengage Autopilot
• Disconnect Autothrottle
• Recover from stall if required
• Roll in the shortest direction to wings level
(unload and roll if bank angle is more than
90°)*
Recover to level flight:
• Apply nose up elevator
• Adjust thrust and drag as required

Q

TAWS Warning

A

• Call “FIREWALL”.
• Disengage Autopilot.
• Disconnect Autothrottle.
• Advance Thrust Levers to MAX
• Immediately initiate a pull up and roll wings level
Note: A momentary exceedance of EGT can occur
• Ensure spoilers are retracted
• Climb at best climb angle, respecting stick shaker
Note: Maintaining sidestick at the aft soft stop
initially establishes the best climb angle
• Maintain configuration until ground contact no longer
a factor

Stall

A

Call “STALL”
• Disengage Autopilot
• Disconnect Autothrottle
• Apply nose down elevator
• Roll wings level
• Apply thrust as required
• Ensure spoilers are retracted

Wind shear

A

Select TOGA
• Verify or advance Thrust Levers to MAX
• Follow FD guidance
• Ensure spoilers are retracted
• Maintain configuration until clear of warning
• Follow escape guidance until windshear
condition is no longer indicated

Q

Low energy go around

A

TOGA button…………………………………………………………………………………Select
Autothrottle (AT) engages if not previously in use, sets Flight Director (FD) to
give initial pitch guidance and synchronizes heading bug.
Thrust levers ……………………………….Verify or Advance to go-around thrust
Ensure Thrust Levers move to MAX position, or manually advance if required.
Note: Manual movement of the Thrust Levers will disengage the
Autothrottle. Reselect Autothrotle if required.
Pitch ………………………………………………………….Adjust to touchdown attitude
Be prepared for a possible main wheel touchdown. When engines are
generating go-around thrust, and at minimum speed VREF, rotate smoothly to
FD guidance.
When safely established in the go-around and no risk of touchdown (speed at or
above VGA and aircraft climbing):
Normal go-around procedure ……………………………………………….Accomplish
Note: If TOGA button is pressed after main landing gear touchdown, lateral
mode will become GA, and HDG or NAV will need to be selected
above 400 ft AGL.

Q

Volcanic Ash Encounter

A

Autothrottle …………………………………………………………………………Disconnect
Thrust …………………………………………………………………. Reduce towards IDLE
If altitude permits, engine thrust should be reduced towards idle to maximize
the engine stall margin and lower the EGT. This action would also reduce the
build-up of volcanic material on the turbine vanes.
Course ……………………………………………………………………. Reverse if possible
Clear air must be regained as soon as possible. Terrain permitting, a
descending 180-degree turn is likely to be the fastest way out of the
contaminated air.
Crew oxygen masks ……………………………………………………………. As required
Volcanic Ash procedure ……………………………………………………….Accomplish
