1930-smoking was glamourized and a social norm. wildly accepted. acceptable to smoking indoor with children and doctors would recommend to patients to calm nerves
-health implications changed views and smoking is frowned upon.
1950s-rsearch linking to lung cancer caused growing concern on dangers. doctors stopped advertising it

how has womens rights changed development policies?
-20th century, had very little rights legally & politically
-stereotypes–>women should stay home and do domestic work
-suffragettes movement=fought for right to vote, women rebelled against marriage and wanted educations and equality
-WWII women did jobs traditionally done by men
-1928=given right to vote
-1960s=liberation movement changed policies and thinking. policies became widespread–>concerned about education and employment
