Acidosis Flashcards

1
Q

“non breathing events that contribute to a change in body pH” i.e. metabolic acidosis

A

diabetes
-contributes to an acidic condition: cannot break down glucose, so body burns FAT, producing ketone bodies.

metabolism (creates acidic environment: working out due to lactic acid build up)

glycolysis (occurs in RBCs)

Q

Ketonacidosis (3)

Optimal blood pH

A

Results when failure to utilize glycolysis results in break down of fats which produces ketone bodies

  1. beta-hydroxide butyrate (contributes to acid condition)
  2. acidoacetate
  3. acetone (spontaneous breakdown product: indicates starvation or diabetes)

7.32-7.42

Q

Two “Gross” events that can change body pH

A

vomiting causes to lose protons, lowering pH
