Active & Passive Voice Flashcards
(18 cards)
Study Card: What is passive voice (in kid-friendly terms)?
Passive voice is when something happens to a thing, but we don’t say who did it.
Example: ‘The window was broken.’ — we don’t know who did it, just that it happened.
Tip: It often sounds more formal or like a mystery.
Study Card: How can you spot passive traps?
Ask: Can I add ‘by someone’ to the sentence?
If yes, it might be passive!
Example: ‘The book was read (by someone).’
GL uses this to make sentences sound more formal or hide the doer.
Which sentence is passive?
A. The dog chased the cat. B. The cat was chased by the dog. C. The dog was chasing. D. The cat chased the dog.
