aerobic respiration Flashcards
why do living organisms need energy?
for movement, keeping warm and chemical reactions.
what is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide +water
what is the symbol equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 +6O2 + 6CO2 + 6H2O
where does aerobic respiration take place?
inside mitochondria (constantly)
what happens when your body can’t respire quickly enough? (while exercising)
you respire anaerobically… glucose isn’t fully broken down so less energy is formed.
what is formed and stays in your muscles after anaerobically respiring?
lactic acid.
what is oxygen debt?
after exercise the lactic acid must be combined with oxygen to turn it into co2. this is oxygen debt.
what happens when yeast cells respire anaerobically?
they ferment. (glucose - ethanol + carbon dioxide)
