photosynthesis Flashcards
what is the word equation for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide+ water… sunlight … glucose + oxygen.
does the rate of photosynthesis increase when the plant gets more sunlight.
up to a point
how can you test the rate of photosinthesis.
place a plant in a test tube full of water and shine a LED light on it, then count the amount of bubbles the plant gives off.
does heat increase the rate of chemical reactions?
yes, up to the point where the enzymes are affected by the heat and the reaction slows down
what is the formula for light intensity?
Light intensity = 1/distance(squared)
what do chlorophyll do?
they trap the energy from the light. they also give the plant its green colour
what limiting factors are available to photosynthesis?
sunlight
water
carbon dioxide
heat
how do limiting factors affect photosynthesis?
they will make the reaction occur more slowly or stop them altogether.
how can farmers grow crops most effectively
with greenhouses as they can control the light intesity, amount of carbon dioxide, the amount of water and how warm it is.
how can glucose be used with cell walls?
glucose produces cellulose which can be used to strengthen cell walls
how can glucose be used with storage?
it can be converted into insoluble starch for storage inside cells
how can glucose be used with amino acids?
it can join with nitrate ions and amino acids join in a long chain to make proteins
how can glucose be used with fat?
it can produce fat or oil for storage
