  • the rehabilitative sentence is based on what D needs rather than the offence

  • aim is to stop D and the community from committing crimes by promoting unpleasant sentences and possibly longer sentences
  • the individual deterrences stop the offender from committing again and the general deterrences stop the public from committing.
