Fossil Fuels
Definition: Fossil Fuels are natural fuels ( such as coal or gas ) formed millions of years ago from the remains of dead plants and animals ( once living organisms ) Used in NGMS: petroleum, coal, natural gas Environmental problems in GA: - dangerous weather - smog - pollution - global warming risk - extreme risk of storms and hurricanes - heat waves -drought -sea level rise
Solar Energy
Definition: It’s an alternative energy emitted by the rays of the sun.
How it produces energy: Today’s solar panels use the crystal copper- indium- gallium- selenide that has been made into films. This transforms incoming light into energy. Crystals have bonds that are shared between all the atoms of the crystal. When the light gets absorbed one of the electrons that’s in the bonds gets a higher energy level causing it to move around more freely than when bound. This is how we get a current.
Wind Power
Definition: Wind Power is an alternative energy source that uses the wind to generate power
How it Produces Electricity: when the blades of the turbine spin it turns the shaft in the drive shaft located in the box part of the tower which produces electricity. The the electricity flows down the tower outside the v
