Angina patho review Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is angina?
When oxygen demand exceeds supply in the heart
What is the classic symptom?
Chest pain/discomfort
What is stable angina?
When chest pain comes in a predictable pattern (with exertion)
Relieved with rest and/or nitroglycerin
MI
Caused by an obstruction in one or more coronary arteries
Usually a result of plaque, thrombus, or both
Ischemia leads to injury, which leads to infarction (cell death)
Unstable angina
When angina becomes more frequent, severe, prolonged, or during periods of rest
Requires immediate intervention - associated with increased risk of MI
Variant(vasospastic) angina
Caused by spasms of coronary arteries
Silent ischemia
Asymptomatic ischemia
Associated with acute MI and sudden death due to not seeking medical attention
