Inhibits transport of calcium into myocardial cells - results in relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and vasodilation also decreases cardiac cellular excitability and contractility

A
Stable and variant angina (especially variant angina because they can relieve acute spasms)
A-fib
HTN (NOT first line)
SVT

A
Assess HR/BP prior to admin
Do not abruptly discontinue –> acute anginal episode

Atropine

St. John’s wort and ginseng may decrease effectiveness of diltiazem
