Ankle sprain- Lateral Epicondylitis Flashcards
(10 cards)
Ankle joint
hinge joint, up and down mov’t, Dorsi/plantar flexion and En/in version
What are the 3 bones involved in the ankle joint
tibia fibula and talus
Ankle joint is stabilized by ligaments on medial and lateral sides. List 3 of the lateral ligaments
Anterior talofibular
Calcaneofibular
Posterior talofibular
List the main Medial Ligament and where they attach to
Deltoid ligament attaches to the talus, calcaneous and navicular
What bones and ligaments are involved with INVERSION
Bones: talus, fibula, calcaneous
Ligs: Anterior, Calcaneofibular, Posterior
”” ENVERSION
bones: talus, tibia, calcaneous, navicular
ligs: Deltoid
What are the clinical implications to an Inversion spain?
- Loss of instability, balance and lots of pain
- May not bear weight, increased chance of falling or re-injury
Acute management (4)
- RICE
- Immobilize in neutral or slight dorsiflexion
- PWB with crutches
- circulation
Subacute (3)
- Splint @ PWB
- Gentle joint mobilization
- AROM if NWB
Lateral Epicondylitis
Tennis elbow - Pain in wrist extensor muscle tendon along the later epicondyle and radionumeral joint with gripping activities.
