ANS & nervous reflexes Flashcards
(19 cards)
Nervous reflexes are
Automatic
Reflexes are automatic responses to a stimulus that
does not need conscious thought as it occurs through Reflex arc
Nervous reflex consists of
Stimulus, Receptor, Sensory neurons, Integrating center, Efferent neurons, Effectors as muscles & response.
Monosynaptic reflex have only :
eg :
Two neurons
eg: Stretch reflex
Polysynaptic reflex have :
eg :
Three or more neurons
eg: Withdrawal reflex
ANS is controlled by centers in :
Hypothalamus
ANS controls :
Involuntary as Cardiac muscles, Smooth muscles, Glands
Autonomic nerves are subdivided into :
Sympathetic & Parasympathetic systems
The dominant during fight or flight :
Sympathetic
The dominant during rest :
Parasympathetic
Sympathetic nerves originate from
Thoracic & Lumbar regions of spinal cord
Parasympathetic nerves originate from
Cranial nerves & Sacral region of spinal cord
Somatic consists of
Single neuron
Autonomic pathways consist of
Preganglionic neuron that synapses with Postganglionic neuron at Autonomic Ganglia
All preganglionic neurons secretes :
binds with :
Acetyl Choline that binds with Cholinergic Nicotinic receptors.
Postganglionic sympathetic neurons secrete :
binds with :
Noradrenaline that binds with Adrenergic receptors
Postganglionic parasympathetic neurons secrete :
binds with :
Acetyl Choline that binds with Cholinergic Muscarine receptors
Adrenal medulla is stimulated by
Preganglionic sympathetic nerves
Adrenal medulla secretes :
Adrenaline & Noradrenaline into Blood
