Pectoral girdle

Pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, subclavius, serratus anterior

1

Pectoralis major origin

Clavicular head: anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
Sternocostal head: anterior surface of sternum, superior six costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique muscle

2

Pectoralis major insertion

Lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus

3

Pectoralis major innervation

Lateral and medial pectoral nerves,
clavicular head (C5, C6)
Sternocostal head (C7, C8, T1)

4

Pectoralis major action

Adducts and medially rotates shoulder joint, draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly
Acting alone, clavicular head flexes shoulder joint and sternocostal head extends it from the flexed position

5

Pectoralis minor origin

3rd to 5th ribs near their costal cartilages

6

Pectoralis minor insertion

Medial border and superior surface of coracoid process of scapula

7

Pectoralis minor innervation

Medial pectoral nerve
C8, T1

8

Pectoralis minor action

Stabilizes scapula by drawing inferiorly and anteriorly against thoracic wall

9

Subclavius origin

Junction of first rib and its costal cartilage

10

Subclavius innervation

Subclavian nerve
C5, C6

11

Subclavius insertion

Inferior surface of middle third of clavicle

12

Subclavius action

Anchors and depresses clavicle

13

Serratus anterior origin

External surfaces of lateral parts of 1st to 8th ribs

14

Serratus anterior insertion

Anterior surface of medial border of scapula

15

Serratus anterior innervation

Long thoracic nerve
C5, C6, C7

16

Serratus anterior action

Protracts scapula and holds against thoracic wall, rotates scapula

17

Most of anterior wall of axilla

Lateral border of sternocostal head of pectoralis major

18

Anterior axillary fold

Inferior border of sternocostal head of pectoralis major

19

Deltopectoral groove

Pectoralis major and adjacent deltoid form it
In which Cephalic vein runs

20

Clavipectoral (Deltopectoral) triangle

Pectoralis major and deltoid diverge superiorly and with clavicle, form triangle
