*make sure you check that patient has no allergies to the abx

List of what to do from order to PPE
A
- verbalise order back
- get equipment
- Dog ear syringe, needle, extension?
- Write up label and have your buddy check it.
- HH and PPE (gloves and goggles)

What equipment is needed?
Use a kidney dish
A
- drug vial(s) *may be Cef or something else, verbalise what it is and that you have checked it’s in date
- 20 ml WFI (at least 3)
- Micro pen
- 19g blunt drawing up need (pink?)
- 20 ml syringe leur lock
- Blue label
- Ext set
- 2 ETOH swabs
- 2 sets of gloves.
- May need a chook’s foot

After PPE to 1st doffing
A
- Put needle on 20 ml syringe and draw up 20 ml WFL * verbalise that date is checked
- Change to micropen *don’t over tighten
- Open ETOH swab and clean the first vial, putting the swab on top of the second vial for when that’s ready
- Add a little WFI into vial(s), shake, take out, repeat; getting all the med into the 20ml syringe
- Discard sharps and put on extension, prime it
- Doff gloves and HH

Loading the pump to the end
A
- Load the pump. turn on, clear set up, When it says ‘General’ say, no.
- Set it to 12.5ml/hour
- HH, Glove
- 2nd swab to clean port and attach line.
- Attach label like a flag
- Ask doc if I can start infusion.

A
2g of Cephazolin in 20ml of WFI at 12.5ml/hour
Sign and date
