1

A

Rapid but short duration of action (USAIN BOLT)- patients that have a high risk of bleeding can be stopped quickly - called ‘standard” or “heparin unfractionated”

Q

Which can be used during pregnancy?

Q

What are LMWH used for?

A

Used in prophylaxis of DVT

Treatment of DVT,PE, MI(generally preferred over heparin)

  • its referred over heparin (unfractionated) because they are effective and have a lower risk of heparin induced thrombocytopenia
  • standardard prophylactic regimen and not to much monitoring in comparison to heparin
  • duration of action is longer so doses can be taken OD - making them super convenient

Q

Glycoprotein 11b/111a inhibitors -

A

Abciximab(monoclonal ABX), Triofiban , epifibatide

They work by decreasing platelet aggregation and inhibiting thrombus formation in arterial circulation
