Multiple Oral Reading

-for pt with pure dyslexia

—uses repeated out loud reading of words in order to facilitate whole-word reading rather than letter-by-letter reading, which they can already do

-reading aloud of text which facilities reading because of sentence context (helps to increase reading rate substantially)

Cross Modality Cueing

A

**for pt with pure alexia

-some pt aided in letter identification by use of a different modality (e.g., tracing on skin)

…thought to provide access to graphemic input

-modalities inlcude tracing letter on palm/having it traced on their palm, copying the written word, tracing letter on paper/air, etc.

  • treatment may involve strengthening GPC’s
  • key words may be used to help train GPC’s
  • can do brief exposures to discourage use of GPC

–used mnemonic method in which printed exception word on one side of the card and word with visual cue to meaning on the other
