Arm And Forearm Flashcards
(38 cards)
Name the 5 muscles of the superior anterior compartment
flexor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi radialis, flexor digitorum superficilais, palmaris longus and pronator teres
Where are the extensors found in the forearm?
In the posterior compartment
Name the 3 muscles in the deep anterior compartment
flexor digitorum profundud, flexor pollicis longus, pronator quadratus
Where do the flexor carpis attach distally and proximally?
proximally to medial epicondyle of humerus, distally to the metacarpal bones
Where does the flexor digitorum superifcialis attach distally?
by 2 slips to the middle phalanx of index to little fingers
Where does the flexor digitorum profundus attach distally?
to distal phalanx of index to little fingers (through whole in f d superficialis
Name the anterior forearm muscles innervated by the median nerve
pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor pollicis longus and lateral side of f d profundus
Name the nerve that innervates the medial half of f d profundus and the flexor carpi ulnaris
ulnar nerve
Action of the pronator teres
pronation and weakly flexes elbow
Name the 5 muscles of the superficial posterior compartment
extensor carpi radialis, extensor carpi ulnaris, extensor digitorum, extensor digiti minimi and brachioradialis
What are the movements the muscles of the forearm can produce?
flexion and extension of wrist, fingers and elbow, adduction and abduction of wrist, supination, pronation
What movements does the brachioradialis produce and where does it attach?
flexion (unusually)
lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus to radius
Where do the muscles of the posterior forearm originate from?
the lateral epicondyle and supracondylar ridge of humerus
Name the 5 deep posterior forearm muscles
extensor indices, extensor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicis longus, supinator
What innervates the posterior forearm muscles?
the radial nerve via the deep interosseous nerve
give the posterior thumb muscles in order (lateral to medial)
abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus and extensor indicis
What are the birders of the carpal tunnel?
flexor retinaculum (attached to hook of hamate and pisiform -> scaphoid tubercle and trapezium) and carpal bones
What passes superficial to the carpal tunnel?
tendon of palmaris longus, ulnar nerve, ulnar artery, palmar cutaneous brances of median and ulnar nerves and superficial branch of radial artery
How does carpal tunnel syndrome occur?
swelling causes narrowing of space under flexor retinaculum -> compression of median nerve
What passes through the carpal tunnel?
median nerve, tendon of flexor pollicis longus (with own synvoial sheath), 4 tendons of f d profundus and 4 tendons of f d superficialis and tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris in own compartment
What does the anatomical snuff box contain?
Radial artery
What root values give the ulnar nerve
C7, 8 and T1
Where does the ulnar nerve innervate?
anteriomedial aspect of the forearm and hand, flexor carpi ulnaris, medial half of flexor digitorum profundus, hypothenar, interossei muscles and medial lumbrical muscles
What are the root values for the median nerve?
C5, 6, 7, 8 and T1
