A

The Inverted U Theory

A

As arousal increases, performance increase until the optimal level of arousal. After this, as arousal increases performance decreases.

What is the optimum level of arousal dependant on?

A

The sport (task requirements).
The level of the players (experience).
The player’s personality.

The Catastrophe Theory

A

Suggests that increase arousal causes performance to peak at an optimum level, but then a sudden dramatic reduction in performance. Is followed by an attempt to recover, where the player can keep playing if their arousal level is bellow the arousal level of catastrophe.
