Types of rescue for an active drowning person
A
- Active front rescue
- Active rear rescue
- Multiple-person rescue

Active front rescue
A
- Approach the person from the front with the rescue tube across your chest and under your arms
- Use both hands to push the tube out
- Push the rescue tube into the persons chest and encourage them to lean forward onto the tube
- Extend your arms and lock your elbows and push person to a safe exit point. Make sure they keep their mouth and nose out the water

Active rear rescue
A
- Approach from behind
- With both you arms over the tube, reach under the persons armpits and grasp their shoulders firmly. Squeeze the tube between your chest and the persons back
- Keep you head to the side and pull the person into the rescue tube. Make sure their airways are out of the water
- Tow the person to a safe exit point

Multiple-person rescue
A
- Approach from behind
- Reach under one persons armpits and grasp their shoulders
- Keeping your head to one side, use the rescue tube to support both people until other lifeguards arrive or they become calm enough to assist to moving towards an exit point
- Another lifeguard arrives so they can be split up and rescues

Front head hold escape
A
- As soon as the person grabs you, take a breath, tuck your chin down, turn you head to the side, raise your shoulders and submerge with the person
- Once underwater, grasp the persons elbows/undersides of their arms and forcefully push up and away
- Quickly swim underwater and out of the persons reach
- Resurface and attempt the rescue again

A
- As soon as the person grabs you, take a breath, tuck your chin down, turn you head to the side, raise your shoulders and submerge with the person
- Once underwater, grasp the persons elbows/undersides of their arms and forcefully push up and away
- Quickly swim underwater and out of the persons reach
- Resurface and attempt the rescue again
