define attribution
deals with how the social perceiver uses information to arrive at casual explanations for events
how any why people explain events and infer reasons
what are the 2 types of attribution
dispositional and situational
dispositional is an
internal factor
situational is an
external factor
dispositional attribution
explaining behaviour of others by internal attributes
eg. personality, motives, ability, emotions, talents, beliefs
situational attribution
assigns behaviour due to an event outside the individuals control
eg. luck, chance, weather, social situations
eg of dispositional attribution
an employee believes they were promoted due to hard work
eg of situational attribution
another employee believes the person got the promotion because the boss likes them
self serving bias
when you attribute your success to your dispositional factors and your shortfalls to situational factors
group serving bias
attributing positive outcomes of a group to their qualities and negative factors on external
eg of group serving bias
of course they won ballet troupe because they are a ballet school
