The chemical reactions that take place in cells.
What does a balanced diet consist of?
What does malnourishment mean?
If you're malnourished, you don't have a balanced diet.
What is the cause of deficiency diseases?
A lack of vitamin and mineral ions.
Why do most athletes need a lot of energy?
They have a great deal of muscle tissue (muscle to fat ratio) so they need a lot of food to supply the energy that they need.
What affects the amount of energy that you need?

In warmer countries, you need to eat ... food. This is because you use less energy keeping your body temperature at a steady level.

• The proportion of muscle to fat in your body
• The risk of heart disease as they influence the amount of cholesterol in your blood
