Back Muscles Flashcards
(66 cards)
Trapezius Origin
Origin: External Occipital protuberance on the Occipital Bones, Spinous Process of C7-T12, Nuchal Ligament, Medial third of the Superior Nuchal Line on the Occipital Bones
Latissimus Dorsi Origin
Origin: Spinous Processes of inferior 6 thoracic region, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac creat, Inferior three to four ribs
Rhomboids Origin of Both Major and Minor
Origin:
- Minor: Nuchal Ligament, Spinous Process of C7-T1 - Major: Spinous Process of T2-T5
Levator Scapulae origin
Origin: Transverse processes of C1-C4
Thoracolumbar Fascia
All the dorsal fascia is named this, but it is most important with the lats, due it the origin site
Serratus Posterior Superior
Origin: Nuchal ligament, Spinous Process of C7 -T3
Insertion: Superior Boarders on the 2-4 rib
Innervation: 2nd-5th intercostal nerve
Motion:Elevates Ribs
Serratus Posterior Inferior
Origin: Angles of the 8-12 rib
Insertion: Spinous Process of T11-L2
Innervation: 9th-11th intercostal nerves,
Motion: Depresses Ribs
Erector Spinae Parts and Motion
Three Parts: Iliocostals, longissimus, Spinals
The Motion is the same for all three subgroups.
-BiLaterally: extend vertebral column and head (bend back)
- Unilaterally: laterally flex the column
Iliocostals, Longissimus, and Spinals Origin
Origin: Board Tendon from Posterior Iliac crest, Posterior Part of the Sacrum, Sacro-iliac ligament, Sacral and inferior Lumbar Spinous Processes and Supraspinous ligament
Longissimus insertion and innervation
Middle Erector Spinae Muscles
Insertion: Runs between the angles and tubercles of the ribs to the thoracic and cervical transverse processes and the mastoid process on the temporal bone
Innervation: Posterior Rami of spinal nerve
Spinals insertion and innervation
Insertion: Fibers run superiorly to the spinous processes in the upper thoracic region and to the cranium
Innervation: Posterior Rami of spinal nerve
Semispinalis
Like a bandage that covers the deep muscles on the neck
Have three parts
-thoracis, cervicis, Capitis
Trapezius Insertion
Insertion: Clavicle, Acromion and Spine of the Scapula
Trapezius innervation
Innervation: Spinal Accessory Nerve (CN XI) (Runs with the Transverse Cervical Artery)and C3, C4 Spinal nerve
Trapezius Motion
Decending fibers elevate
Middle fibers retract
Ascending fibers depress
Lattissimus Dorsi insertion
Insertion: intertubular groove on the humerous
Lattissimus Dorsi Innervation
Innervation: Thoracodorsal Nerve (C6, C7, C8)
Lattissimus Dorsi Motion
Motion: Extends (Arms Back), Adducts (Arms in), Medially Rotates the Shoulder joint
Rhomboids (Both) Insertion
Insertion:
- Minor: at the medial end of the scapular spine - Major: Inferior to the scapular spine on the medial border
Rhomboids (Both) Innervation
Innervation:
- Minor: Dorsal Scapular Nerve (C4, C5) - Major: (Same)
Rhomboids (Both) Motion
Motion:
- Minor: Retract Scapula, Depress the glenoid cavity - Major: (Same)
Iliocostal Insertion
Insertion: Runs to the angles of the lower ribs and the transverse processes of the cervical region
iliocostal intervation
Innervation: Posterior Rami of spinal nerve
Semispinalis (all three) origin
The transverse processes of c4-t10 vertebrae
