Battersea, on the south bank of the Thames

Coal-powered station built between 1930 and 1950
Built with 4 distinctive chimneys and an art deco interior making it a grade II listed building
Ceased generating power in 1983 but has become a well known London landmark
Why did it have a period of dormancy?
London could not afford its redevelopment

Malaysia’s property development and industry businesses (international investment)
What do the developments involve?
- 40 acre site is a blend of shops, cafes, art, leisure facilities, accommodation and office space
- development saves grade II listed building and replaces the 4 iconic chimneys
The positives of urban resurged at BPS?
- connects this part of London whcih has been derelict for decades with the building of and extension of the London Underground
- makes Battersea and Wandsworth more desirable with its vasr range of housing attracts young professionals with expanding families
- excellent rail and undergorund links make commuting to city and west end very easy
Location of Newham
Newham is located Greater London and is moderately central but is Northeast to the centre of London and is Southwest of the Essex area. It is also on the north side of the Thames next to London boroughs such as Leyton, Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
Location of stratford
It is located on the north west border of the the Olympic park and the north side of West Ham and the East side of Canning town
Stratfords industrial in the 19th century - Dockland
In the 1820s Stratford was industrialised because of a Dockland which meant that it could transport goods easily into the city through the Thames and abroad
What did stratford use to make in 1839 and why essential?
Stratford produced many locomotives, coaches and wheel wagons and was essential because it offered over 2500 jobs
