Q

Nucleus & DNA function. Plant or cell

A

Nucleus stores and protects the DNA. And the DNA contains instructions for making proteins. Both cells have them.

Q

Golgi Apparatus function. Plant or cell

A

In it, proteins get changed, put into packages, and carried to other places in the cell. Both cells have them.

14
Q

Describe the fluid mosaic model of the membrane.

A

Phospholipid are arranged tail-to-tail, it acts like a film of oil in the surface of water.

16
Q

Receptor - Intracellular vs. membrane receptors

A

Receptors detect signal and act because of it. Molecules that cannot enter the cell bind to receptors in the membrane. Whie molecules that can cross bind to the receptors inside the cell.

17
Q

Decomposers

A

feed by chemically breaking down organic matter; this produces detritus.

18
Q

Food Chain vs. Food Web? How do they compare?

A

Food chains show how energy travells through feeding relationships. While Food Webs show a network of feeding interactions in which both energy and matter move. A Food Web is like a bunch of connected Food Chains.

19
Q

What is competition?

A

Competition is when individuals compete for food and resources.

20
Q

What is predation?

A

When a predator consumes its prey.

21
Q

What is population density?

A

the number of individuals in an area.

22
Q

Describe the three ways in which a population can be dispersed.

A

A population can be dispersed by geosphere, atmosphere, and the hydrosphere.

23
Q

What four factors affect population size?

A

Geological range, age structure, density, and distribution.

24
Q

Exponential versus logistic growth?

A

Exponential growth shows the species increased slowly then had an exponential increase due to the abundance of food and resources.

25
What is a carrying capacity?
The number of individuals an ecosystem can support.
26
What is a limiting factor?
It affects the carrying capacity of an environment. It can be density dependent or density independent.
27
What are density dependent and density independent limiting factors? Give examples
A density dependent limiting factor is predation.A density independent limiting factor are environmental extremes like flood and droughts
28
Describe Pyramid of Energy, Pyramid or Biomass and Pyramid of Numbers.
Pyramids of Energy show the amount of energy getting passed onto the next trophic level. Pyramids of biomass shows the amount of biomass on each
