bio#4 Flashcards
(28 cards)
Lysosome function. Plant or animal cell
Organelles that contain enzyme. Only animal cells
Cell Membrane function. Plant or cell
Package that the cell comes in. Both cells contain it.
Nucleus & DNA function. Plant or cell
Nucleus stores and protects the DNA. And the DNA contains instructions for making proteins. Both cells have them.
Nucleolus function. Plant or cell
Facilitates ribosomes. Both animal and plants cell have them.
Nuclear Membrane function. Plant or cell
Surrounds the nucleus and surrounds genetic material. Found in both cells.
Golgi Apparatus function. Plant or cell
In it, proteins get changed, put into packages, and carried to other places in the cell. Both cells have them.
Endoplasmic Reticulum function. Plant or cell
Helps in the production os proteins and other molecules. Both cells contains one.
Mitochondria function. Plant or cell
Produces chemical energy that is usable by a cell. Present in both cells.
Chloroplast function. Plant or cell
Convert solar energy into chemical energy by photosynthesis. Only present in plant cells.
Vacuole function. Plant or cell
Sacs of fluid that store material in a a cell. It is present in both cells.
Cytoskeleton function. Plant or cell
Gives shape, support , and strength to a cell. Present in both cells.
Cell membrane def function. Plant or cell
membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell.
What is a phospholipid?
It is made of three parts: a phosphate group, a glycerol, and two fatty acids.
Describe the fluid mosaic model of the membrane.
Phospholipid are arranged tail-to-tail, it acts like a film of oil in the surface of water.
What is selective permeability?
Allows some materials to cross it, but not all.
Receptor - Intracellular vs. membrane receptors
Receptors detect signal and act because of it. Molecules that cannot enter the cell bind to receptors in the membrane. Whie molecules that can cross bind to the receptors inside the cell.
Decomposers
feed by chemically breaking down organic matter; this produces detritus.
Food Chain vs. Food Web? How do they compare?
Food chains show how energy travells through feeding relationships. While Food Webs show a network of feeding interactions in which both energy and matter move. A Food Web is like a bunch of connected Food Chains.
What is competition?
Competition is when individuals compete for food and resources.
What is predation?
When a predator consumes its prey.
What is population density?
the number of individuals in an area.
Describe the three ways in which a population can be dispersed.
A population can be dispersed by geosphere, atmosphere, and the hydrosphere.
What four factors affect population size?
Geological range, age structure, density, and distribution.
Exponential versus logistic growth?
Exponential growth shows the species increased slowly then had an exponential increase due to the abundance of food and resources.
