What is biodiversity

A

The measure of different species of organisms on earth, or within a particular ecosystem.

Why is biodiversity important

A

Because it reduces the dependance of one species on another for survival. If there are lots of different species, if one is removed, there are smaller effects.

Where can pollution occur

A

In water, from sewage, fertiliser or toxic chemicals.
In air, smoke or acidic gasses
On land from landfill

Pollution kills plants which reduces biodiversity

How does deforestation effect biodiversity

A

It removes trees that are good for habitats amd replaces them with oil palms and other commercial plants that dont benefit species.
Grow crops for biofuels.

What do peat bogs do

A

Destruction of them for compodt reduces habitat and variety in plants and animals
Decay and burning of peat releases co2.
