Biofeedback Flashcards
(3 cards)
What is bio feedback?
A medical device monitors, physical processes, such as heart rate, blood pressure or muscle attention, and gives immediate feedback to the patient so the patient can learn to reduce the physical processes, and therefore hope to reduce the experiences of stress
What theory does bio feedback follow?
Operant conditioning
What steps happen?
First, the individual is taught relaxation techniques, and is connected to a machine at measure is the physiological measure this could be a EMG which would measure muscle tension EEG you should measure brain activity or SCR which would measure sweating
When increased activity is identified by any of the machines feedback is given to an individual automatically. This could be via a sound if most attention increases or a visual display of accelerated heart rate the individual then uses the learn to relaxation technique while seeing listening to the feedback.
