Biomechanics Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are Newtons three laws of Motion
1st) Law of inertia: A body will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external or unbalanced force
2nd) Acceleration: There is a direct relationship between force applied to a body and its resulting acceleration
3rd) Action- Reaction: For every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force
Give an example of first, second and third class levers
First class levers: Tricep extensions
Second class levers: Calf raises
Third class lever: Bicep curl
Which lever systems have a mechanical advantage and which have a mechanical disadvantage
First and second class levers have a mechanical advantage and third class have a mechanical disadvantage
Give 3 examples of technologies that analyse movement
1) Motion Capture
2) Force Platforms
3) Video analysis
What are the four variables for linear motion and their units of measurements
Distance (metres)
Displacement (metres)
Speed( metres/second)
Velocity( metres/ second)
Acceleration( metres/ second squared)
What are the formulas for Speed velocity and acceleration
Speed= Distance/ Time
Velocity= Displacement/ Time
Acceleration= ( Final velocity- initial velocity) / time
What is Linear Motion
Motion in a straight line or curved line where all parts of the body move the same distance at the same time
What is angular motion
The movement of a body in a circular path about an axis of rotation
What is Angular velocity, its formula and measurement
The rate of change in angular displacement.
Angular velocity= angular displacement/ time taken
Measured in radians/ second
What is Moment of Inertia
The resistance of a body to change its state of angular motion or rotation
