Blood flows in the body Flashcards
(10 cards)
Where does deoxygenated blood from the body enter the heart?
Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium via the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava.
What carries deoxygenated blood from the upper body to the heart?
The superior vena cava.
What carries deoxygenated blood from the lower body to the heart?
The inferior vena cava.
How does blood flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle?
Blood flows through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle.
How is blood pumped from the right ventricle to the lungs?
Blood is pumped through the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary artery.
What does the pulmonary artery do?
The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen.
Where does oxygenated blood return after being in the lungs?
Oxygenated blood returns to the left atrium via the pulmonary veins.
How does blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle?
Blood flows through the mitral (bicuspid) valve into the left ventricle.
How is blood pumped from the left ventricle to the body?
Blood is pumped through the aortic valve into the aorta.
What does the aorta do?
The aorta distributes oxygen-rich blood to the entire body.
