3
Q

Measurement of the ICF and ECF.

A

Intracellular fluid - 2/3 of the total body fluid
Extracellular fluid - 1/3 of the total body fluid (interstitial fluid - 80%, plasma - 20%)

Q

What is the difference between the passive and active process?

A

Passive process - transport process without energy, along the concentration gradient
Active process - transport process requires energy, against the concentration gradient

Q

What are some types of passive processes?

A

Diffusion - net movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to area of low concentration

Q

What is the difference between simple and facilitated diffusion?

A

Simple diffusion does not need anything to cross whilst facilitated diffusion need help (either channel or carrier mediated).

Simple diffusion:
- hydrophobic
- uncharged
- non-polar
