Cell membrane Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is the plasma membrane?
A
Semi-permeable wall that allows communication, protection and control for the movement of the substance.
2
Q
What is the cell?
A
Structural and functional unit of the organism.
3
Q
What made up the plasma membrane?
A
Phospholipids, they are amphipathic (both hydrophobic and hydrophilic).
4
Q
What allows to enter the plasma membrane?
A
Water, gas and small soluble particles (i.e. glycolipids, glycoprotein) can easily enter and leave the cell. Whilst large molecules like protein cannot enter or leave the cell. Charged ions can only enter via channels.
5
Q
What does cholesterol do in cell membrane?
A
Cholesterol monitors fluidity in the cell membrane.
