Body systems Flashcards
(17 cards)
How is the body organized?
Cell - tissue - organ - system - organism
Which are one type of the 4 types of major systems? And which is their major function?
Infrastructure systems:
Give structure, help other systems.
Skeletal.
Muscular
Cardiovascular or circulatory.
Nervous.
Which are another type of the 4 types of major systems? And which is their major function?(2)
Regulation systems:
Give balance.
Endocrine.
Lymphatic or immune.
Urinary or renal.
Which are another type of the 4 types of major systems? And which is their major function?(3)
Energy systems:
Distribute energy.
Respiratory
Digestive
Which are another type of the 4 types of major systems? And which is their major function?(4)
Reproductive system:
Responsible of creating more life.
What is the endocrine system responsible of?
It’s responsible of the production of hormones. Hormones are chemicals that balance our bodies functions.
The organs that form the endocrine system are called glands.
Which are the six main glands in the endocrine system?
Pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, ovaries, testes.
Which is the pituitary’s main function, common disorders and which hormone does it produce?
Pituitary:
Hormone produced : growth hormone.
Function : body growth controls other glands.
Common disorders : dwarfism, gigantism.
Which is the thyroid main function, common disorders and which hormone does it produce?
Thyroid:
Hormone produced : thyroxine.
Function: regulate metabolism temperature heart rate.
Common disorders : hypo, hyper thyroidism.
Which is the adrenal main function, common disorders and which hormone does it produce?
Adrenal:
Hormone produced : adrenaline, cortisol, dopamine.
Function: controlled the reaction to fear, anger, excitement.
Common disorders: cushings ➖ addison. ➕

Hormone produced : insuline.
Function : regulate the levels of sugar in the blood.
Common disorders : diabetes.
Which is the ovaries main function and which hormone does it produce?

Hormone produced : estrogen.
Function: controls female traits.
Which is the testes main function and which hormone does it produce?
Testes:
Hormone produced : testosterone.
Function : controls male traits
What is the immune system?
A complex network of cells, tissues and organs that protect our body from pathogens
What are pathogens and what are some examples of pathogens?
Pathogens are organisms that causes disease:
Bacteria virus, fungi .
Which are the three levels of defence in the body?
- Skin & mucus.
- Inflammation & fever..
- The immune system.
Which are some of the four cells in the immune system that help us and how do they help us?
Helper T - cells: weapon cell that is perfect to fight the pathogen.
Macrophage : a huge cell that eats bacteria like crazy.
B-cells: cells that produce antibodies.(Antibodies: chemical substances that fight and clean pathogens.)
M-cells: cells that remember the pathogen to fight it again.
