Organelles Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is an organelle?
They are specialized parts of a cell that have unique jobs to perform.
What are the two types of cells? (Not prokaryote and eukaryote)
The animal cell and the plant cell.
What are the parts of the cells and which are their functions?
Cell membrane: maintains the internal structure of the cell
Cytoplasm: jelly-like substance containing organelles
Nucleus: directs the cells activities.
Endoplasmic Reticulum: folded membranes that work as a transportation system.
Mitochondria: they convert the chemical energy into oxygen and other nutrients for the cell.
Ribosomes: begins the process of making proteins.
Lysosome: contains powerful chemicals that break down harmful molecules. (Tip Lysol)
Vacuole: it stores water and nutrients and helps digest food.
What are 3 more organelles that plant cells have and which is their function?
Cell wall: a rigid wall that provides support.
Vacuole: the larger vacuole helps the plant cell store nutrients.
Chloroplast: they contain chlorophyll to get energy.
