Sexual and asexual Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is reproduction?
Reproduction: producing more of the same type of organism. These are called “offspring”.
What are some characteristics of sexual reproduction?
Two parents that provide an egg cell (girl) and a sperm cell (boy). This is called fertilisation. ⬅️
The DNA of the offspring is a combination of the parent’s DNA.
What are some characteristics of asexual reproduction?
One parent.
The offspring has the same DNA of the parent.
What are three types of asexual reproduction? And what are their?
Runners: long stems that grow new roots.
Tubers: plant stems that store nutrients and can grow offspring.
Bulbs: another type of stem that grows offspring.
What are another three types of asexual reproduction? And what are they?
Binary fission: the bacteria’s division process.
Budding: the mother cell grows a daughter cell.
Fragmentation: the parent organism divides into fragments that grow again.
