Mitosis Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is mitosis?
The process by which a cell divides.
Which is the other stage that occurs when mitosis isn’t occurring and which is the percentage?
Interphase more or less %80/%90.
Mitosis more or less %20/%10.
What are some characteristics of mitosis?
It makes identical cells.
They only duplicate when necessary.
It condenses DNA into chromosomes .
What are some characteristics of interphase?
They grow, duplicate DNA and does it job.
Bonus: how many chromosomes are they?
46 chromosomes.
What are the stages of mitosis and what happens in each of them? (PMAT)
Prophase: chromosomes condense and are visible.
Metaphase: chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. Nucleus disassembles.
Anaphase: chromosomes are pulled away by the spindles.
Telophase: new nucleus surrounds the chromosomes.
Which is an extra stage of mitosis?
Cytokinesis: the cytoplasm divides and new cells are formed.
