What is the pathogenesis for dermatophytosis?

A

Contact causes infection

Fungi attacks keratinized tissues (stratum corneum & hair follicles)

What causes Dermatophylosis

A

A gram +ve bacteria (Dermatophylosis congolensis) which will proliferate in the stratum corneum causing an immune reaction, and severe pain (not pruritic)

How do you treat Dermatophylosis

A

Chlorhexidine shampoo or Povidone iodine shampoo

Systemic - penicillin, oxytetracycline

Do an indirect fluorecence antibody test
