1

Central Nervous System

consists of the brain and spinal cord

2

Cingulate Glands

Belt bridge that covers the corpus callosum that plays an important role in attention and cognitive awareness

3

Medulla

Responsible for digestion, respiration, heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure

4

Pons

Sleep

5

Brain Stem

Includes; Medulla, Midbrain, and pons

6

Cerebellum

Motor coordination, balance

7

Midbrain

Coordinates movement with sensory input

8

Reticular activating system (RAS)

Process of arousal and tension

9

Limbic System

Emotional experiences/BASIC DRIVES of sex, aggression, hunger, and thirst

10

Caudate Nucleus

Controls motor behavior

11

Cerebral Cortex

Contains over 80% of neurons in the central nervous system

12

Left Hemisphere

Verbal and other cognitive processes

13

Right Hemisphere

Perceiving surrounding events and creating images

14

Temporal Lobe

Recognizing various sights and sounds

15

Parietal Lobe

Recognizing various sensations of touch

16

Occipital Lobe

Integrates various visual input

17

Frontal Lobe

Thinking and reasoning abilities

18

Peripheral Nervous System

Coordination with brain stem to ensure body is working properly (voluntary)

19

Somatic Nervous System

Controls our muscles

20

Autonomic Nervous System

Regulates the cardiovascular system and the endocrine system (involuntary)

21

Endocrine System

Releases hormones into the bloodstream. Regulates 4 glands; adrenal, gonads, pituitary, and thyroid.

22

Sympathetic Nervous System

Mobilizes body during times of stress (activating)

23

Parasympathetic Nervous System

Renormalizes body after arousal states

24

Pituitary Gland

Master or coordinator of endocrine system
