KU: The BRICS bloc represents 43% of the world’s population and is focused on shifting international power away from Europe and the USA towards the developing world.

A: This is important because SA is part of the group that in the future might have more economic influence in the world and being part of this club means that it can have an influence in the political and economic direction that BRICS goes in.

KU: South Africa has the smallest reach of all the BRICS countries and is nowhere near as powerful as India or China. “made in South Africa” is not nearly as common as “made in China”. This could be made worse with the expansion of BRICS.
