Un Security Ciuncil Flashcards

UN Security Council
KU: South Africa plays an active role in the UN and was elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2006 and 2010
meaning it was involved in key global decisions
A: This is important because because it means that South Africa can be included in important decisions /actions and can put forward/agree/disagree on different decisions. KU: However
South Africa is only a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council compared to USA
A: This is important because this means that South Africa does not have much influence when there’s a decision they want to do for example if they agree to something and think that action should be taken for that thing but one of the permanent members veto it
it means they can’t do anything to help or take action for that thing.
