Cardiovascular System Flashcards
(14 cards)
mitral valve
connects the left atrium, where the pulmonary veins enter, with the left ventricle
tricuspid valve
connects the right atrium, where the vena cava connects, to the right ventricle
pulmonary valve
connects the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery
aortic valve
connects the left ventricle to the aorta
each side of the heart’s function
left side—distributes blood to the body
right side—distributes blood to the lungs
sinoatrial node
the pacemaker; located in the right atrium
when activated, the upper chambers begin to contract
atrioventricular node
located between the upper chambers of the heart
slower electrical signal; gives time for ventricles to fill after atriums contract
bundle of His
extends from AV node down the center of the heart
Purkinje fibers
extend from the bundle of His
cause ventricles to contract
electrical rhythm of heart
SA node—atrial contraction (systole)
AV node—delay
bundle of His—carries signal
Purkinje fibers—ventricular contraction (systole)
carotid artery and jugular veins
travel up the neck
brachial artery and basilic vein
arm vessels
subclavian artery
branch from aorta and supply the arms; below the clavicle
sinus of valsava
dilation of the ascending aorta that connects to the aortic valve
